Challenging Bernie Clark Yin Yoga Misconceptions
A Response to the Bernie Clark Yin Yoga article: Paulie Zink Doesn’t Like “Popular” Yin Yoga
6 Honest Corrections to the Bernie Clark Yin Yoga Book
Paulie Zink developed Yin yoga in the 1980’s. Bernie Clark did not even meet Paulie Zink until 2007. Bernie Clark is not the foremost authority on Paulie Zink’s life, his biology, nor his achievements. Paulie Zink is the only foremost authority on himself and his complete art of Yin yoga.
Rebuttal to Bernie Clark Yin Yoga Article
Bernie Clark demonstrates some confusion regarding the history of Yin yoga. He claims, “Paul Grilley, not Paulie Zink, developed yin yoga as a style of yoga.” As for Grilley developing the style of Yin yoga, note that the Kripalu website bio of Paul Grilley (see photo) states: “Paul Grilley has been teaching yoga since 1980 in the style of Taoist master Paulie Zink.”
Paul Grilley Got It Wrong
Paul Grilley falsely claimed “After a few months” of studying with Master Zink that he had “seen the whole repertoire.”
One of Master Zink’s most senior and advanced students, who was there in the same classes with Grilley, tells a very different story.
The Problem with Yin Yoga Anatomy Theory
“I was taught at a Yin Yoga workshop that the genetics of my bones would not allow me to ever develop flexibility in certain poses. They told me I will never do the splits, but it’s not my fault, it’s my bones.”
A real medical doctor weighs in on this theory that is being taught as though it is based in science.

Yin Pose Phoenix Flow
The Phoenix is a mythical bird that is reborn from its own ashes; it symbolizes longevity and regeneration. The Phoenix embodies the FIRE element: the energetics of rising upward above the earth, of being ungrounded. It’s the quality of lightness and free form spontaneity in movement. Picture yourself running barefoot across a paved parking lot on a very hot summer day; imagine how your feet would barely touch the ground and your gate would be brisk and springy.
